Mirko Orsini, Ph.D.

Mirko Orsini

Mirko Orsini is Chief Executive Officer, Head of Administration and Human Resources, responsible for Consulting Services and President of the company. Since 2004, he is a member of the DBGroup research team and he has participated in national and international research projects. He holds a degree in Computer Engineering since 2006 and he obtained the PhD degree in “ICT – Computer Engineering and Science” at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2009. During 2008, he was visiting researcher at the ADVIS Lab (Advances in Information Systems), University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

His scientific expertise mainly concerns the query processing in Data Integration Systems, with particular attention to the resolution of conflicts on the data and the problem of system security in data integration.

Prof. Sonia Bergamaschi

Sonia Bergamaschi

Sonia Bergamaschi is Vice-president of the Board and leads the Scientific Committee. She is Full Professor of Computer Engineering at the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, and leads the group of database research, DBGROUP.

Her scientific expertise mainly concerns the knowledge representation and management in very large databases. Since 1985 she has been very active in the area of coupling Artificial Intelligence, Description Logics (DL) and Database Systems techniques to develop Intelligent Database Systems. Sice 2000 she has been involved in Intelligent Data Integration research, by designing the MOMIS mediator system, which provides an integrated access to distributed, structured and semi-structured data sources through a virtual view. The user can query the virtual view as if he was interrogating a database and get a response that integrates data from external sources in a transparent manner.

She published over one hundred international journals and conference papers on Databases and Artificial Intelligence.

Sonia Bergamaschi was coordinator from 2001 to 2003 of the “Intelligent Information Agents Group” of the European network of excellence AgentLinkII and member of AgentLinkI,III (1999-2005). Since 2002 she’s been dealing with “Semantic Web” topic and has been coordinator of the European research IST SEWASIE project, whose aim was the development of a semantic search engine based on the system MOMIS. She has been representative of UNIMORE for the European IST STASIS (Software for Ambient Semantic Interoperable Services) project and national coordinator of the research base MURST FIRB “NeP4B (Networked Peers for Business)” project (2006-2009), whose goal was the development of a network, based on p2p architecture, to exchange and share the knowledge in SMEs (Small & Medium Enterprises). She was coordinator of the Italian FIRB project NeP4B (Networked Peers for Business). She is member of the IEEE Computer Society and ACM.

Prof. Domenico Beneventano

Domenico Beneventano

Domenico Beneventano is a member of the Board of DataRiver and leads the Quality Unit. He is Associate Professor of Computer Engineering at the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Professor of Computer Science and Database Technology. He is member of the database research group DBGROUP.

His scientific expertise have initially focused on reasoning techniques applied to databases for knowledge representation and query optimization. Next he worked on intelligent integration of information collaborating in designing the MOMIS data integration system. More recently he’s beeing working on Semantic Web and Ontologies. Domenico Beneventano published numerous international journals and conferences papers on database.

Since 2006 he is local representative of the European project IST STASIS and participates in the FIRB NeP4B MUR project. He has participated in several research projects: SEWASIE (FP5-IST), STASIS (FP6-IST) as a local coordinator, FACIT-SME (FP7-SME) and NeP4B (FIRB national project).

Alberto Corni, Ph.D.

Alberto Corni

Alberto Corni is responsible for the Hardware and Software Architecture. He is part of the research group DBGroup since 1996, graduated Ph.D. in Information Engeneering at the University of Bologna in 2001. In 1999 had a six month stay at the College of Computer Science at the Northeastern University of Boston (USA) where he worked on Information Retrieval. At the time being is a IT technician at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria “Enzo Ferrari” of the University of Modena e Reggio Emilia. Alberto worked as software analyst and developer of web application at Democenter (Modena) and he also worked on projects on companies quality management, traceability of goods and management of the suppliers orders work-flow.

Laura Po, Ph.D.

Laura Po

Laura Po is a member of the Scientific Committee and a member of the database research group DBGROUP. Since 2010 she is researcher of Computer Engineering in the Engineering Department “Enzo Ferrari” at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. In 2009 she obtained a Ph.D. in Information and Communication Technologies at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. In 2008 she spent a period of three months at the Knowledge Media Institute in Milton Keynes (UK).

Her scientific expertise mainly concerns the development of semi-automatic techniques for extracting metadata and annotate data sources, with particular interest in the development of techniques for disambiguation (Word Sense Disambiguation).

Serena Sorrentino, Ph.D.

Serena Sorrentino

Serena Sorrentino is a member of the Scientific Committee. She was a researcher for the Biogest-Siteia Center at the Department of Information Engineering, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. She is a member of the database research team DBGroup. In 2011 she obtained Ph.D. in Information and Communication Technologies at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. In 2010 she spent a period of four months at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Texas at Dallas (USA).

Her scientific expertise mainly concerns the development of techniques for automatic and semi-automatic annotation and normalization of lexical, structured and semi-structured data sources. She also developed an algorithm for Word Sense Disambiguation based on probabilistic models.

Enrico Calanchi

Enrico Calanchi

Enrico Calanchi is Head of the Clinical Data Management Operating Unit. In 2010 he obtained a degree in Computer Engineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, with a thesis entitled: “Comparative analysis of the major smartphone platforms for CRM applications.” Since July 2010 he is analyst and software developer at DataRiver.

His scientific expertise mainly concerns the design and development of web applications for clinical data capture and management.

Luca Magnotta

Luca Magnotta

Luca Magnotta is responsible for the Data Integration Operating Unit. In December 2010 Luca Magnotta obtained the Master Degree in Computer Science and Engineering (Laurea Specialistica in Ingegneria Informatica) from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia – Faculty of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari”. His degree dissertation was: “Progettazione e realizzazione del software Solar Data Manager per la gestione di dati da sensori” (Design and implementation of software “Solar Data Manager” for sensor’s data management).

Marco Silvio Monari

Marco Silvio Monari

Marco Silvio Monari is responsible for the Business Development and the Sales and Marketing Area. He obtained a Master Degree in Corporate Management and Consulting at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2013. Since 2014 he’s been working as market analyst and head of sales and marketing at DataRiver.

His technical and professional skills concern financial management, market analysis and marketing strategy development.

Prof. Maurizio Vincini

Maurizio Vincini

Maurizio Vincini is Associate Professor of “Computer Engineering” at the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Professor of Database Technology, Information Systems and Computer Science (also for cadets of the Military Academy of Modena). He is a member of DBGROUP.

His scientific expertise mainly concerns the information knowledge and management, the integration of heterogeneous information through the use of ontologies and representation languages based on the Semantic Web. He published national and international journals, conference papers and book chapters on topics related to the integration of information in both the Web and in models of virtual enterprises, defining models of ontological semantic representation. He participated in numerous national and international projects concerning these topics.

Gabriele Morselli

Gabriele Morselli

Gabriele Morselli obtained a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Bologna in 1985. Later he began working as a Clinical Research Associate and as Project Manager since 2000.
Since 2009 he has been business development manager for major Italian Contract Research Organization (CRO). In recent years he has been collaborating with Medical Departments of Pharmaceutical Companies, Key Opinion Leader of Italian medicine and scientific societies, maintaining meanwhile relationships with Ethics Committees, Hospitals / University / IRCCS and their Scientific Panels.

His scientific expertise concerns the development, planning and management of clinical trials, Phase I-IV, Observational and Real World Data.

He’s collaborating with DataRiver as Clinical Advisor and internal trainer on clinical data management since 2015.

Giovanni Simonini

Giovanni Simonini

In February 2012 Giovanni Simonini obtained the Master Degree, summa cum laude, in Computer Science and Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. His Degree dissertation was: “Design and Development of an Application for Mobile Devices based on the iOS operating system to support management and planning”. In May 2012 he obtained a financial support from Spinner 2013 for a project on a cross-platform app for smartphone for the enterprise sales department. Since January 2013 he is a Ph.D. student at the International Doctorate School in ICT of the University of Modena e Reggio Emilia.

His scientific expertise mainly concerns the development of techniques for Big Data management, Web Intelligence and Semantic Web.

Zhu Song

Zhu Song

Zhu Song finished master degree in Computer Engineer at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2009. His Degree dissertation was: “Controllo e gestione di una wireless sensor network (WSN) attraverso un database distribuito MySQL” (Control and management of a wireless sensor network with a distributed MySQL database). His first work experience in a IT company was in Apex where he worked for 3 years as SAP BW consultant and Microsoft technologies developer. After this experience he worked for Reitek as business intelligence developer till 2013, when he received and accepted a offer from Dedalus SpA, an international healthcare software house. In Dedalus he worked for a patient master data application till 2014.

His scientific expertise mainly concerns the development of techniques for Big Data integration and Semantic Web.

Marco Pacchioni

Marco Pacchioni

In April 2014 Marco Pacchioni obtained the Master Degree in Computer Science and Engineering. His Degree dissertation was:“Progetto e sviluppo di un’applicazione per la gestione dei tempi di gruppi di lavoro per Windows Phone e confronto con lo sviluppo su altre piattaforme” (Design and development of an application for time management working groups on Windows Phone and comparison with development on other platforms). Since May 2014 he’s been working as software analyst and developer at DataRiver.

His scientific expertise concerns the design and development of data-intensive web and mobile applications and interoperability between web and mobile applications.

Alessandro Piccirillo

Alessandro Piccirillo

Alessandro Piccirillo holds a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies awarded by the University of Bologna in 2010, with a dissertation in bioethics, and a 1st Level Master’s Diploma in Bioethics awarded by the University of Padua in 2012.

Since May 2016 he has been collaborating with DataRiver in the field of Clinical Data Management.

Daniele Santi

Daniele Santi

Daniele Santi graduated summa cum laude with a Doctor of Medicine Degree (MD) in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2008. Since February 2009 he has been admitted to the Medical association of doctors and surgeons in Modena. He then obtained the Certificate of Specialization in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases in 2014 and in 2016 the title of Doctor of Research in Experimental and Clinical Medicine, yet at the same University. In 2013 he completed the post-graduate course in Systematic and Cochrane Meta-analysis, organized by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, in collaboration with Cochrane Collaboration. In 2016 he received the Certificate of Data Management for Clinical Research by Vanderbilt University and the Certificate of Mathematical Biostatistics Boot Camp by Johns Hopkins University

He is currently MD at the Department of Biomedical and Metabolic Sciences and Neuroscience at the University of Modena e Reggio Emilia. Since 2016 he is a Statistical Consultant for DataRiver.
